Hexanoic acid is a linear carboxylic acid with 6 carbon atoms. It is derived from hexane. Hexanoic acid is an aliphatic acid. It was discovered from the fat of animals. It exists as glyceride in coconut oil and cream. It is the byproduct of the fermentation of butyrate in sugar. The ester of hexanoic acid can be used as a spice. Hexanoic acid is one of the chemicals in the odor of the corrupt ginkgo seed skin. Caproic acid bacteria is closely related to strong liquor. To some extend, it determines the quality and flavor of strong liquor.
Applications of hexanoic acid:
1. Hexanoic acid is an edible spice. It is used in cheese, cream, and fruit essence. The dosage in regular production ranges from 450mg/kg in spice, 28mg/kg in candies, 22mg/kg in bakery, to 4.3mg/kg in cold beverage.
2. As a basic organic raw material, hexanoic acid is used to produce various hexanoate products. It is the intermediate to synthesize hexylresorcinol, the medicine. It is also applied to produce the thickening agent of lubricant, the auxiliary of rubber processing, varnish drier, and so on.
3. Hexanoic acid can also be applied in resin and rubber synthesis.
