Description
Assuming that the nema starter could be replaced with a variable frequency drive would be premature, certain things like length of conductors, amount of conductors in raceway, etc...like i said im no expert, i always consult an EE on these types of projects. its my experience with said EE that ive learned that standing waves generated by the switching of the variable frequency drive that can destroy a & quot;standard duty& quot; motor where an inverter duty would withstand the higher & quot;spikes& quot;. and also might one need line side reactors and load side & quot;chokes& quot; depending on the application right. like i said, im no expert on this application, therefore i do what OP is doing. ask questions. the drive manufacturer could also help right?
A Reliance drive would be relatively old. Back in the & acute;early days& acute; of variable frequency drives, it would not have been uncommon to see a delta-delta & acute;drive isolation transformers& acute; used in a mistaken effort to keep this small 10HP drive from interferring with the building& acute;s power grid (those damn harmonics). Seeing how they had to buy the transformer, purchasing a smaller 480V VFD manufacturers and motor combination may have made sense, both economically and installation wise.
