Power Supplies
Description
An AC drive controls the speed of an ac motor, which provides flexibility to the process since speed can be changed easily for process optimization. It takes the fixed power supplied to it and converts it into a variable frequency and variable voltage source which then feeds a motor. This allows the AC drive to control the speed and torque the motor produces.
An AC drive may enhance the user& acute;s profitability by improving the process, which in turn produces a fast return on investment (ROI).
AC Drives offer many benefits to reduce energy costs and extend the life of mechanical equipment essential for consistent building comfort. AC drives allow HVAC system fan and pump motors to run at variable speeds, based on demand, eliminating the power surge encountered when the device is simply turned on with full electrical current.
An AC drive bypass assures the customer uninterruptible operation with their HVAC system - the ability to keep their fans and pump running at all times - even if the AC drive is taken out of the loop for whatever reason.
Electronic And Conventional Bypass: The Differences for those with little experience in bypass applications, let& acute;s start with a few of the basics. As the word indicates, a & quot;bypass& quot; is defined in an engineering spec as a means of taking the AC drive out of the electrical power loop while keeping the HVAC system up and running.
This requirement could be needed for a multitude of reasons, but the most common ones include reprogramming or servicing of the AC drive, or in the rare event of the AC drive mechanically failing. In the early days of AC drives, back some 20 years ago, their failure rate was an issue. However, today it is rare for any AC drive to just mechanically fail. more...
